Mission of the Academy for Science and Freedom
To combat the recent and widespread abuses of individual and academic freedom made in the name of science, Hillsdale College’s Academy for Science and Freedom educates the American people about the free exchange of scientific ideas and the proper relationship between freedom and science in the pursuit of truth. Led by national and international scholars, its work serves to educate policymakers and the general public about important discoveries and ideas that might otherwise be ignored by scientific journals and corporate media. Through strategic alliances among scientific scholars and organizations, Hillsdale’s Academy for Science and Freedom is a platform for free, reasoned, and civil discourse in scientific research and issues of public health and provides educational opportunities for citizens in general.

Program Activities
The Academy for Science and Freedom will achieve its goals through the following activities:
- Media and government outreach, including conferences, panel discussions, interviews, and testimony
- Scientific workshops and conferences with in-residence scholars
- The publication of lectures, position papers, opinion pieces, books, and other written and video content in print and digital formats
- Offer one-week summer courses in critical thinking in medicine and public health for undergraduate and graduate students and shorter courses for physicians and other health professionals
- Publication of a scientific journal—Academy Proceedings in Public Health
- Visiting scholar sabbatical opportunities
